The
28 islands that make up Phu Quoc” are surrounded by coral reefs however
recreational scuba diving is done at either the two northern islands adjacent
to the main island of Phu Quoc or in and around the southern islands of the
southern tip of Phu Quoc Island. On Phu Quoc Island the best time for diving is
from 9.a.m. to 11.a.m. and 3.p.m. to 4:30.p.m. However, for adventurers
scuba-diving at night is really exciting as this is the time when the sea
surface is really peaceful and many fishes are out looking for food.
For
divers coming from Phu Quoc, the true treasures around Phu Quoc Island are hidden
below the surface where the panorama bursts into a virtual array of colours and
corals - Diving. Diving in Phu Quoc will bring you face to face with a variety
of fish and other sea life including beautiful nudibranch populations and
bamboo sharks, yet, the most coveted encounter is one with the very few dugongs
rarely seen around the island. The archipelago boasts a wide range of diving
with areas containing an abundance of sea grass to gentle sloping coral reefs,
diverse sea life, spectacular dive sites made up of house-sized boulders, and
much more.
Both
Con Dao and Phu Quoc were used as prison islands during French colonial times,
and later by the Americans, during the ‘Vietnam War'. Down south there are up
to 20 different dive sites around a group of 13 islands with depths ranging
from 10-40 m. The majority of the islands are surrounded by coral and are
slowly being converted to marine protected areas, thus giving you a slightly
better chance of seeing more and bigger fish and lots of nudibranches. Last

Dive
sites in Vietnam are accessible all year round, but the best time to dive
is in the main diving season from March through to October. Phu Quoc Scuba
Diving center and our dive team are organizing a cleanup day” every month to
keep our dive sites clean and offering our customers the opportunity to get
involved with project AWARE. The hard & soft corals are pristine around the
mass of small islands to the South and are home to a huge variety of small
colorful reef/coral fish, many of them endemic to the Vietnamese waters.
The
diving tour departs from Duong Dong Port on a purpose-built-dive-boat at 7.a.m.
and then take about 45 minutes on a bus journey to the islands in the south. I
found the crew and dive sites to be exactly as you described - crew AAA+, dive
sites OK. Given it's the start of the slow season our diving was restricted to
the sites around Hon Mun Island, but on both days I saw enough to make it a
very enjoyable experience. The An Thoi archipelago consists of 12 islands
located due south of Phu Quoc with pristine scenenery and an abundance of
colourful reef fish, daytrips here often include a spot of fishing.

time on land (e.g. at the various pearl, fish sauce, or souvenir shops) as well

Phu Quoc you can find some dive sites around the island; most suggest to go to
An Thoi archipelago very close to Phu Quoc where you can see coral reefs
and many colourful fishes, but you'll not find for example large fishese and/or
manta.
